TOPIC CONTENT

This presentation aims to:

1. Identify the 10 high-risk categories of medication as defined by MDS Section N.

2. Determine which medications, commonly seen in nursing home residents, fit into the high-risk categories.

3. Understand why these medications pose risks to nursing home residents.

4. Determine Appropriate Indications for Use for high-risk medications.

5. Understand the importance of communication with the interdisciplinary team regarding appropriate indications.

SPEAKER

Blanche Reiss, RPh

Blanche Reiss serves as the director of LTC Compliance, a consultant pharmacist group providing remote and on-site consulting services to long term care facilities in 10 states. She attended LIU Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy receiving her PharmD degree and is licensed to practice pharmacy in multiple states. Prior to founding LTC Compliance in 2011, Blanche worked as a staff pharmacist, consultant pharmacist and clinical director of a long-term care pharmacy. LTC Compliance's mission is to partner with facility and pharmacy teams to better resident care, impart knowledge and improve outcomes.
