August 23, 2012
WASHINGTON – The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT today released the final requirements for Stage 2 meaningful use that hospitals and healthcare providers must meet in order to qualify for incentives.
They also published the criteria that electronic health records must meet to achieve certification.
Stage 2 (which will begin as early as 2014) increases health information exchange between providers and promotes patient engagement by giving patients secure online access to their health information.
This is the first in a list of HealthIT videos that shoud assist in understanding the importance of information technology in providing more appropriate care to all americans.
Taken from a letter sent out by Robert Torres the State Health Information Technology Coordinator issued on June 27th, 2012.
Senate Bill 8 unanimously passed the House of Representatives last night. Pending the Governor’s signature, the passage of SB 8 creates the Pennsylvania eHealth Partnership Authority to help govern the execution of the strategic plan we submitted to advance health information exchange in the commonwealth.
This is quite an accomplishment considering it was just under a year ago that we re-launched this effort to re-engage our stakeholders and determine the best course, related to this effort, for Pennsylvania. It also is a credit to the legislators and stakeholders that worked with us and played a significant role in keeping this important legislative initiative moving.
We will keep you posted on further developments as we work on next steps in this process.
