Pennsylvania is changing the Case Mix System for Medical Assistance Reimbursement Effective with the rate setting period starting on July 1, 2010, the Pennsylvania Case Mix reimbursement system will change. Considering the five month period between the case mix index (CMI) picture date and the rate setting period for reimbursement, the effective CMI picture date for the new system is February 1, 2010. The revised system involves a transition from RUG-III Version 5.01, 44 group model to the RUG-III Version 5.12, 34 group model. In addition to the RUG calculation change, each Minimum Data Set (MDS) will be included in the determination of the CMI score for the picture date. The Pennsylvania Association of Nurse Assessment Coordina-tors (PANAC) along with ParenteBeard, LLC – Senior Living Services Consulting are prepared to educate your team on these changes. This education is offered 4 times during the month of February;
