On April 22, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) publicly announced its efforts to deal with confusion regarding the implementation date for the Medicare RUGs IV payment system, due to the partial delay contained in the new health care reform law. CMS, AAHSA, and other stakeholders are united in finding and supporting legislation to fix this glitch in the law in time for a smooth transition to the new payment system by the previously scheduled Oct. 1, 2010, date. Because there is support for a legislative correction among influential members of Congress, nursing facilities should continue to plan to comply with the new payment system by October 1, 2010. AAHSA.org has a wide variety of informational materials to help you with this process.
