SNF Open Door Forum Notes from June 3rd
These are notes given to us by Janet Gerber from the Open Door Forum held yesterday afternoon.
Advancing Excellance
There was a presentation by the group that coordinates Advancing Excellence with discussion regarding their new initiatives. Everyone, including individuals, have been encouraged to get involved. It was quite an extensive presentation regarding the positive impact/s the program has had thus far. They were referring participants to their website. I have it in my favorites. If you don’t have it, email back and I will get it for you. \r\n
Grant Discussion
There was a discussion regarding matching grants being available for states (I think it had to do with the quality initiatives) and they referred us to www.grants.gov
Tom Dudley
- The train-the-trainer conference in Las Vegas is scheduled for Aug 9 – 13, primarily to assist those who were unable to attend due to the travel to the east coast. Las Vegas was chosen because of the accessibility of most airlines with direct flights, etc. They anticipate a larger group participation and additional info will be posted on the website soon.
- The presentations will primarily the same but will also have the updates included that resulted from questions, etc.
- They are focusing on the getting the remainder of Chapter 3 updates out within the next week and the remainder of the manual revisions are to be available, hopefully, by June 18th.
- He stated to monitor the dates on the files and they will demonstrate most current versions. He explained how they have been producing the updates in groups for each section (Section, Slides, and Instructor’s Guide). Sections B, D, E, and F should be available within the next day or so. (As you should know, I picked up on their ‘goof’ when they posted the instructor’s guide for F without any other info. Tom told me that is was a ‘test’ and that I won. J When I asked him what I won, he told me a trip to Disney World – but then reminded me that we are already in fantasy land! I do like working with him.)
- He stated that the video that was produced by Dr. Saliba regarding the interview process with be posted shortly and will also be available on www.pioneernetwork.net which is apparently the group with which she is associated.
- The discharge assessments are primarily for those with “planned” discharges but whatever information that is available for emergency/unplanned discharges should be submitted. They do NOT expect interviews on those types of discharges.
- RUGS-IV – it was noted that there have been technical updates posted. There was quite a discussion regarding the actions underway in congress to “potentially” rescind the mandate to push the RUG-IV back. Either way, Sheila emphasized that CMS WILL BE compliant with the law and will utilize a hybrid of the RUG-IV for reimbursement. The RUG-IV process will be utilized and there will be an adjustment made, once they have time to complete their analyses. They are currently calling it HR3 (Hybrid RUG-III). They are going to present teleconferences on the RUG process and will be posting the registration information for them. You are going to have to register to get a call-in and registration number. Watching for the updated info on the listserv was emphasized. Anticipated dates for the first two training will be August 5 and August 25.
- Sheila did mention how she had been reading from various vendor that people HAD TO BUY their RUG-IV info to be prepared. She really didn’t seem to be to thrilled with that – although she did say that some form of the RUG-IV will be utilized. She also encouraged support for the primary provider organizations that are apparently pushing for full implementation of the RUG-IV.
- They are accessible also on Facebook and Twitter and you do not have to be a member to reach them.
