The Pennsylvania Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators, PANAC, was founded in 1998 as a professional organization made up of members involved in the assessment of residents in Long Term Care. Our purpose is to promote excellence in the assessment process, develop opportunities for information exchange, represent the interests of our members and respond to the need of members to increase their knowledge base to improve the quality of life of the residents we serve.

CMS makes changes to MDS 3.0
CMS posted new versions of the MDS 3.0 item subsets on its Web site April 9, along with a document containing questions and answers from the March MDS 3.0 training session in Baltimore.

Request from CMS during the 3.0 TTT Conference
During the Train the Trainer MDS 3.0 conference, CMS representatives requested that resident scenarios be submitted to CMS. These scenarios will be used as examples of the coding in the revision to the draft manual. It was also requested that the \'answer\' be provided as to how the information should be coded. This will not only provide them with 'real life' examples of the difficult coding decisions you may have to make but also gives them insight into your thought process in making the decision. You can submit these scenarios to CMS directly at MDS30Comments@cms.hhs.gov or you can email them to Mary Ann Leonard at malhip@yahoo.com where they will be assembled into one document and submitted to CMS. In order to increase their likelihood in being used in the next version of the manual, likely to be published late May or early June, the submission should occur within the next 2 weeks or so. This does not mean that you should not submit anything if you cannot make such a deadline, submit whenever you wish and it may be used in subsequent versions of the Manual. This is your opportunity to participate in a meaningful way in the development of the Manual.

Office of Long Term Living to provide education to Providers (Download)
Nursing Facility Provider Meetings Scheduled for May. The Office of Long Term Living, Bureau Provider Support, through the Long Term Living Training Institute, will be conducting a number of Nursing Facility Provider Meetings throughout the Commonwealth in May 2010. These meetings are designed specifically for NHA and Financial Representative in the AM and for RNACs and DONs in the afternoon. The afternoon education is on the MDS 3.0 implementation.
